Otentic eco-tent is an experience indeed. The sole glamping site of Mauritius offer a deep incursion into the roots of Mauritius, with an emphasis on local cuisine. Counting 12 tents, “Otentic”, is located near the mouth of Grand River South East, overlooking the turquoise eastern lagoon that makes the best postcard snapshots of Mauritius.
The concept invites for a self-reconnection and harmonious easy-going living, putting to the side the superfluous and the unnecessary. This is symbolised by the switching-off of WiFi between 7:30 and 9:30pm.
Yet, Otentic eco-tent is packaged with activity and action. The region is rich in mountain ridges and peaks for great treks. The nightly rates include access to the games and activities available on the location and especially the “lending” of kayaks or stand-up paddles for glides along the river nearby up to its famous waterfall. The highlight is the daily (free) boat shuttle to the islets of Ile-aux-cerfs and Ilot Mangenie. Weather-permitting, snorkelling trips can take place around Ilot Flamand, an out-of-this-world sand bank in the middle of the vast lagoon.
“Joyride”, the largest flat-water kitesurfing spot around Mauritius will delight kitesurfers who will be able to launch from Ilot Mangénie, with the help of the staff. Otentic is part of our kitesurfing holiday theme.
Bicycles are also available for discovery self-guided rides along the coastal villages nearby or and there is a 10-Km mountain bike circuit in the vicinity, plus possibilities hiking tracks of 4 Kms & 7 Kms.
The tents count a main bedroom, an integrated bathroom with washbasin, hot-water shower and toilets. The bedroom counts 1 double and 2 single beds, accommodating up to 4 adults or 2 adults + 3 children.
While the healthy breakfast is included in the nightly rates, lunch and dinner need to be booked. Lunches consist of a variety of tasty Mauritian dishes, while dinners are meat and fish or seafood grills with vegetarian side-dishes.
The reasons lie in the description above. The concept invites for a reconnection with nature and with oneself, by its setting as well as the activities proposed as described above. Additionally, a 1-hour Yoga class is proposed every Saturday.
