Google Map API Key TutorialIt’s not because the name is weird that Trou d’Eau Douce is an out-of-hype lost hole along the east coast of Mauritius. Just locate it! It is that beach that faces the most hyped Ile aux Cerfs island which has been a “must-go / must-see” feature, far before Mauritius became a tourist destination. Over-hyped? Certainly for the island but not at all as far as the village is concerned.
Trou d’Eau Douce is a village of contrasts as it lives on the over-numbered boat excursionists that take hundreds of tourists every day to Ile aux Cerfs and beyond. Yet, it has kept its allure and atmosphere of a traditional coastal village of Mauritius, of the times when fishermen were still fishing.
A happy mix, enhanced by the presence of a few local restaurants that have remained authentic, despite having served thousands of dishes to tourists and Mauritians over the past decades.
To the hosts of holiday beach villas in Trou d’Eau Douce, it translates into a beautiful beach-side experience facing the largest lagoon of Mauritius and its numerous sweet spots for bathing, snorkelling, kitesurfing or boating, with the convenience of having some restaurants down the road, with the perfect mix of authenticity and holiday lightness.
